With over 10,000 different ant species that fill various, unique niches in the earth’s diverse eco-systems, some ants take their names from the work they do and some ants are named for their curious actions. Harvester ants collect seeds; that’s what they do. Some of their favorite seeds include ragweed, crab grass, rough buttonweed, sedge, poke weed, red clover, alfalfa, evening primrose, narrow leaf vetch and crotonweed but they tend to collect these seeds, one type at a time.
